The City has a stormwater system that is under capacity for even a once-every-2-years storm. We need to evaluate the impact of new development and climate change and build a long-term investment plan to protect our community from flooding.
Falls Church and Fairfax County have agreed to key terms for the City’s purchase of sewer capacity to meet development and peak flow demands that anticipates building a $10+ million sewage retention tank under Cavalier Park.
175 injuries from traffic crashes were reported in 2024, according to police and traffic data, an improvement over 2023 but still the third worst year in the last 8 years. The majority occurred on key 25-30 mph roads – Broad St, Washington St, Hillwood Ave and Great Falls.
City Council gave the go ahead for the construction of the roundabout to begin, and also to initiate condemnation proceedings to acquire needed land from Bowlero by eminent domain. The roundabout is expected to cost $3 million, 90% covered by state grants.

The City’s Bicycle Master Plan update shows the designs for three bicycle routes, including details of the East-West Connection, and proposes four new Capital Bikeshare stations. Cost estimates are provided.
The final concept plan for Lincoln Avenue was published in June. It includes two new stormwater vaults and the use of permeable parking. Lincoln will be narrower although the speed limit is unchanged at 25mph.
City staff presents changes to road design that include repurposing on-street parking for bike lanes along priority routes in the City, part of the Bicycle Master Plan.
The new budget does not resolve the issue of how much debt will be used to fund upgrades to the sewer infrastructure, although the City Manager acknowledged the gap between developer fees and actual growth.
