City Manager Wyatt Shields reported on the City’s efforts to clear the “igloo ice” deposited after the January snowstorm. It took City crews four days, working around the clock, to service every street.
Construction has begun at the West Falls Church Metro Station site, affecting parking, bus bays and pedestrian access, in particular, the closure of the shortcut footpath to Meridian High School.
The City is planning to begin roadworks on S Annandale Rd, near Gundry Drive; the Little Falls and Great Falls intersection and a major one at the N Washington St and Columbia St intersection. All have followed the Vision Zero strategy to improve traffic safety.

The new W&OD trail crossings did not fare well over their first winter. Crews are repaving the crossings. The cost of the do-over is being shared by the City and the contractor.
City Council gave the go ahead for the construction of the roundabout to begin, and also to initiate condemnation proceedings to acquire needed land from Bowlero by eminent domain. The roundabout is expected to cost $3 million, 90% covered by state grants.
Construction of four W&OD trail crossings will last until August. Expect periodic road closures on Great Falls St, N Oak St and N Spring St.
