City Council approved the final solid waste fees for FY2026, along with the introduction of an organics bin. The real estate tax rate for FY2026 will be reduced by 1.5c for ALL real estate in the City to $1.185, a windfall for commercial property owners.
The Solid Waste Task Force discussed three structures for trash fees – all would result in lower valued properties paying proportionately more to the City than high valued properties.
We cover the past three Solid Waste Task Force meetings to draw up a fee structure for the households that use the City’s trash collection service, looking at costs to be included in the fee and adding an organics bin.
To address condo owner concerns that they are not getting a service paid by their taxes, the City Council will discuss and likely approve the creation of a Solid Waste Task Force to study and report on options for a fee-based trash service by early August.
In response to condo owners who are not eligible for City solid waste collection today, the City is exploring options that are more equitable. Options to reduce waste are also discussed.
