The City of Falls Church has a flooding problem. In addition to upgrading storm sewers, green infrastructure can reduce flood risks by soaking up rain water into the ground where it falls.
Falls Church must purchase nutrient credits to offset phosphorous and nitrogen pollutants in stormwater runoff that is in excess of limits set by the Virginia municipal storm sewer permit.
The City has a stormwater system that is under capacity for even a once-every-2-years storm. We need to evaluate the impact of new development and climate change and build a long-term investment plan to protect our community from flooding.
